Temporomandibular joints, also known as TMJs, are joints that hold your jaw in place and make speech and eating possible. However, over time these ball and socket joints can wear down or become damaged, hindering your mouth’s ability to function properly. Don’t let your jaw fall into disrepair. Protect your temporomandibular joints with the following treatments:

– Chewing tough or hard foods can put stress on your TMJs, so avoid problematic foods and eat only softer foods.
– Avoid chewing bubble gum or biting your nails, as they can put unnecessary stress on your TMJs.
– Heat packs can be used to lessen the pain caused by TMJ disorders.
– If you are looking for treatment systems you can practice at home, meditation and biofeedback are excellent relaxation methods for jaw tension.
– Always speak with your dentist at Plaza Dental Care for treatments and instructions to protect your TMJs.
– Take any medications as prescribed by your dentist.
– Bruxism can cause TMJ disorders, so sleep with a night guard or a bite plate for protection.

If you would like to schedule a dental exam to check for TMJ disorders with Dr. Khashayar Khomejany, please contact our office at Vallejo, California. You can call us at 707-642-1360. Don’t let your oral health ruin your life, take the steps now to build a better bridge to a brighter future.

Did you know that clenching your teeth, which is also known as bruxism, can occur while you’re sleeping or when you’re awake? This issue can actually lead to a number of serious issues. Sadly, many people clench their teeth without realizing what they’re doing. This is especially problematic because you may clench your teeth while you’re resting.

Sadly, there are a number of issues you may have to deal with if you have bruxism. For instance, your enamel could wear down, which may leave you more vulnerable to tooth decay. Furthermore, clenching your teeth could lead to tension headaches or even migraines. Similarly, clenching your teeth could lead to chipped or fractured teeth. In fact, if you have bruxism, you could actually lose all of your teeth.

Fortunately, even though you could be clenching your teeth unwillingly, there are a few symptoms you can watch for. For instance, as a result of teeth grinding, you could face dull headaches, especially after you sleep. Your mouth and muscles may frequently feel sore. Sadly, you may also experience pain in your ear, damage to the insides of your cheeks, and even indentations on your tongue.

Still, if you have bruxism, there may be a few other things you can do to help you deal with the issue. However, because bruxism can be the result of a variety of problems, you’ll need to visit a dentist in order to enjoy the best options. One common solution is to have a custom mouth guard created. Similarly, if your bruxism is caused by misaligned teeth, realigning them may work as well.

If you’re interested in learning more about bruxism, please feel free to give Plaza Dental Care at 707-642-1360. Dr. Khashayar Khomejany and our team will be happy to answer any questions you may have. We’re eager to hear from you soon.

Welcome to Plaza Dental Care, a  comprehensive, family-friendly dental practice in Vallejo, California, where we use state-of-the-art dental technology, including CEREC® one-visit restorations for our patients seeking a high-quality, natural-looking dental crown.

As well as covering a tooth that is damaged, weakened or discolored, our porcelain dental crown can be used to help a tooth’s shape or appearance to look more attractive, and also to keep the bite healthy as a crown prevents the teeth from shifting.

Our porcelain dental crowns are created to match your own pearly whites, making them a natural-looking replacement. The life of a dental crown can run anywhere between five to fifteen years, depending on the amount of stress you place on it and how well you care for your oral health in general. Taking excellent care of your crown means staying on top of your oral health which includes:

  1. Brushing at least twice a day
  2. Flossing daily at least once (particularly around the crown area where your gums reach the tooth)
  3. Avoiding hard foods, biting your fingernails and grinding and clenching your teeth
  4. Keeping up with routine professional dental cleanings and exams

Do you have a damaged or missing tooth that may benefit from wearing a dental crown? If so, Dr. Sean and Dr. Sepi in Vallejo, California, are here to help restore your smile in just one visit.
