Are you contemplating having your wisdom teeth removed? If so, good for you! Having your teeth removed is an important decision that could affect your oral health for years to come. That is why understanding why people have them removed can help you with your choice.

Our dentists, Dr. Khashayar Khomejany, can help you with removing your wisdom teeth. To help you understand why our team at Plaza Dental Care in Vallejo, California, has provided some basic insight for you.

Your wisdom teeth are the last of your adult teeth to develop in your gums. Wisdom teeth begin to appear in the teen years or early adulthood and often comes associated with pain, fever, and discomfort in the jaw. For most people, there is not enough room in your jaw for all your wisdom teeth to grow in properly, causing them to become impacted and put a painful strain on your other teeth in your smile.

Oftentimes, your wisdom teeth can chip, crack, or hurt the neighboring teeth or the root of the teeth, which is also painful as they pierce your gums. As your wisdom teeth grow in, they can force your other teeth out of alignment making it harder to brush and floss as easily and can lead to an increase in cavities and risk of gum disease. Still, wisdom teeth below the surface can also lead to infections that can dramatically damage your oral health. That is why having them detached is always ideal to keep your oral health in fantastic shape.

As you can see there are many reasons to remove your wisdom teeth. If you still have questions or would like an evaluation, please call us today at 707-642-1360 to set up a one-on-one appointment with one of our professionals. We are always happy to assist you.

Did you know that clenching your teeth, which is also known as bruxism, can occur while you’re sleeping or when you’re awake? This issue can actually lead to a number of serious issues. Sadly, many people clench their teeth without realizing what they’re doing. This is especially problematic because you may clench your teeth while you’re resting.

Sadly, there are a number of issues you may have to deal with if you have bruxism. For instance, your enamel could wear down, which may leave you more vulnerable to tooth decay. Furthermore, clenching your teeth could lead to tension headaches or even migraines. Similarly, clenching your teeth could lead to chipped or fractured teeth. In fact, if you have bruxism, you could actually lose all of your teeth.

Fortunately, even though you could be clenching your teeth unwillingly, there are a few symptoms you can watch for. For instance, as a result of teeth grinding, you could face dull headaches, especially after you sleep. Your mouth and muscles may frequently feel sore. Sadly, you may also experience pain in your ear, damage to the insides of your cheeks, and even indentations on your tongue.

Still, if you have bruxism, there may be a few other things you can do to help you deal with the issue. However, because bruxism can be the result of a variety of problems, you’ll need to visit a dentist in order to enjoy the best options. One common solution is to have a custom mouth guard created. Similarly, if your bruxism is caused by misaligned teeth, realigning them may work as well.

If you’re interested in learning more about bruxism, please feel free to give Plaza Dental Care at 707-642-1360. Dr. Khashayar Khomejany and our team will be happy to answer any questions you may have. We’re eager to hear from you soon.
